DURION MPU - Integrated Master Processing Unit
The DURION™ MPU is a rugged purpose-built fully integrated Master Processing Unit for train coach passenger information and CCTV system upgrades. This system combines all the vital functions and interfaces required in upgrade programs. The MPU can be used in solutions with Ethernet Backbone or in cases where each coach will have to operate independently. The MPU is capable of controlling all the Ethernet-connectd LCD PID or DRMD as well as the RS-485 LED signs inside the train, destination signs on the sides of the train, as well as passenger emergency devices. The MPU can also include IP-camera recording. Audio interfaces are used for train staff voice announcements as well as playback of prerecorded announcements. Transformer-coupled 100V Speaker lines are driven by an external power amplifier using standard Line-level audio outputs from the MPU or by using Ethernet.
The figure below illustrates a typical coach PIS modernisation solution.

This device optimally combines 3G/LTE and WiFi interfaces, GNSS location, Ethernet and serial ports, Full HD Audio I/O with a high efficiency 6-core 64-bit RK3399 ARM SoC processor. Designed in an ultra-compact “heavy duty” die-cast powder coated conduction cooled IP65 aluminium enclosure, the DURION MPU includes a rugged “System Connector” for all power, serial communication, Audio I/O, a M12 X-coded connector for GBIT Ethernet and a A-coded M12 connector for the ChannelLink III HMI interface. The service panel exposes a maintenance USB port, an HDMI display connector, a debug port, as well as a service headset jack. Wireless interfaces such as the eSIM 3G/LTE cellular modem, the GNSS receiver and the WiFi all use SMA connectors for connecting antennas.
The DURION MPU has a wide input range (9-38VDc) railway-class PSU with a multi-stage EMC-filter and input protection. The overvoltage protection will clamp transients exceeding 100VDC and surge voltages up to +-2KV. A wide operating temperature range and an IP65 ingress protection rating ensures reliable operation in arctic and tropical environments.
The DURION MPU optimally balances integration with functionality. Basing on a 2GHz 6-core HW coprocessor accelerated ARM SOC, the DURION MPU delivers outstanding computational performance with a low power consumption. Apart from standard USB, RS232/485 Serial and HD Audio I/O the MPU includes a GBIT Ethernet for connecting to intelligent LCDs or IP audio announcement amplifiers. The HMI display connects using Duragon's digital serialized interface, which combines display power, I2C PCAP touchcreen interface and 18-bit LVDS into a single twisted two-pair cable. The Audio codec circuitry includes software selectable ambient noise feedback, which enables the sensing of ambient noise and compensating adjustment of the output gain.
A high speed soldered down 8GB eMMC FLASH disk is used for OS, application and operational data storage, while up to two 2.5" SATA III SSD can be used for media storage as well as recording CCTV footage from IP cameras.
